Preparing for treatment: QUTENZA treatment tips

Before treatment

Show your healthcare provider where you’re experiencing pain

Your feet will be washed, dried, and examined to make sure your skin is free from any cuts or open wounds

If needed, a numbing agent will be applied

During treatment

Wear comfortable clothing

Your blood pressure will be checked

Bring something to read or do during the application

After treatment

Wash your feet at home and put on clean socks

Avoid hot water, direct sunlight, and vigorous exercise for a few days

Apply cooling pack or take over-the-counter medication for any discomfort, as needed

Treatment process steps

Treatment with QUTENZA takes about 30 minutes in your healthcare provider’s office.

Step 1: Identify

Your healthcare provider will identify and mark the treatment area and examine your feet prior to treatment.

OPTIONAL: A topical anesthetic may be applied to potentially reduce discomfort associated with QUTENZA.

Step 2: Apply

The QUTENZA topical systems will be applied to your skin for 30 minutes. Your blood pressure will be monitored periodically throughout the treatment.

Step 3: Remove

After 30 minutes, your healthcare provider will gently and slowly remove the QUTENZA topical systems.

Step 4: Cleanse

A post-application cleansing gel will be applied to the treatment area, then feet will be washed.

Ongoing relief: getting the most out of QUTENZA treatment

Due to the chronic nature of diabetic nerve pain of the feet, it's important to work with your healthcare team to ensure you're doing everything you can to stay a step ahead of pain.
